How to Make a Coco Bark Hanging Basket

    • 1). Fill a bucket with warm water. Thoroughly soak coco bark in water until the bark is moist and malleable.

    • 2). Pack the moist coco bark into the inside of the wire framed hanging basket with your hands. Ensure that the entire wire framed is evenly and completely lined with the coco bark.

    • 3). Punch holes into both the base and sides of the plastic hanging basket liner with scissors; these holes will allow for excess water to drain from your hanging basket.

    • 4). Position plastic liner into wire framed hanging basket on top of the coco bark layer securely. Without the plastic liner the coco bark will drain out the majority of the water you provide to your plants. The plastic liner will help reduce moisture loss which will in turn reduce the amount of watering your plants require.

    • 5). Cover the inside of the plastic liner with an even layer of moist coco bark with your hands.

    • 6). Fill the hanging basket loosely with soil.

    • 7). Plant your chosen flowers into the soil. If desired, flowers can also be planted into the coco bark sides of the hanging basket to give the basket a full appearance. Vines and trailing plants provide the most effect in this regard. Add more soil to the basket to completely cover the roots of your flowers. Carefully, pack down the soil around the flowers to ensure they are secure.

    • 8). Fertilize your flowers. Garden fertilizer is available from your local garden center. Follow the direction carefully regarding how much fertilizer to use.

    • 9). Water your hanging basket thoroughly. Hanging baskets tend to dry out very quickly. Water from the top of the flower arrangement, allowing the water to pour through the basket to ensure a uniform and deep watering.
