- 1). Remove the battery and/or AC adapter.
- 2). Remove the screws from your screen cover using your screwdriver. (The screen cover is the plastic cover holding your laptop's LCD screen in place.)
- 3). Pry open the screen cover using your fingers, and pull it off of the laptop.
- 4). Remove the screws connecting your LCD screen to the metal bracket supporting the screen. These screws are located on the sides of the now-exposed laptop screen.
- 5). Lay your screen down on the keyboard of your laptop, and find the data cable connected to your laptop. Remove this cable.
- 1). Remove the sticky tape and foil from the sides of the screen, and place it somewhere so you can place it back onto the screen after you have made the repair.
- 2). Untape the circuit board from the top of the LCD screen, and place it in a plastic bag to keep it free of static.
- 3). Unlatch the metal bracket holding the LCD screen in place with your screwdriver. Continue separating the bracket until you have separated the screen into three pieces: the LCD screen, the circuit board and the screen base.
- 4). Remove the two or three transparent layers on top of the screen base with your fingers. Do not separate them; just set them all off to the side.
- 5). Pry off the metal backlight cover with your fingers to reveal the back bulb.
- 1). Unclip the backlight cables from the clips holding them in place. Separate these cables from any tape pieces holding them onto the screen.
- 2). Remove the backlight and reflector (the metal piece held to the bottom of the LCD screen with double-sided sticky tape).
- 3). Remove the rubber caps on the ends of the now-exposed backlight. Slide these caps up the cable to reveal the spot that requires soldering.
- 4). Remove the cable from the old light, and use your soldering iron to solder the cable onto the new backlight. Replace the plastic caps onto the newly soldered spot.
- 5). Replace the backlight bracket, circuit board, screen and battery as described above.
