- 1). Get rid of all garbage around your house. If you can smell it, so can the houseflies. They will be attracted to any organic garbage in the house. The difference between garbage and trash is that trash is usually not organic. Get rid of anything in your house that is or was alive and can grow mold.
- 2). Spray the insides of your trashcans (and the outside for that matter) with aerosol fly spray. This will kill any flies that are there and keep them from coming back. If you happen to find maggots anywhere, these have got to go because maggots rapidly turn into flies. You can use aerosol spray to kill flies, but you may harm yourself too as it's highly toxic and bad for the environment.
- 3). Use a fly swatter to kill any flies that are swarming around the house. Fly swatters have been around for decades and they are very effective at getting rid of these common household pests. They are quiet, swift and deadly so arm yourself with one and go to work. Some people like to spray the fly swatter with spray so that should they fail to kill the fly upon impact, they will at least get poison onto it which will hinder its ability to fly.
- 4). Set up fly traps on each side of your house. Fly traps are coated with a special bait that is especially tasty smelling to flies. They will enter and once they do, they can't get out. The most important thing to remember about fly traps is that you should empty them and/or replace them regularly. If you don't, you may run into trouble when the flies return and the trap is full. They won't be able to enter and you'll be back at square one.
- 5). Keep a clean house! This is the most important thing you can do to keep houseflies from invading your personal space.
