- 1). Place the transformer on a flat surface. If the transformer is round, place it flat so that it doesn't roll. If it has pins to mount it to a printed circuit board, place it upside down with the pins pointing up.
- 2). Measure and record the height or thickness. Hold the ruler perpendicular to the flat surface. With circuit board mounted transformers, do not include the length of the connection leads.
- 3). Measure and record the length or diameter. Measure it at its longest point, including the bulge. If it has a base, measure the longest dimension.
- 4). Measure and record the width.
- 5). Measure and record the distances between any mounting holes, and the diameter of the holes.
