How to Make a Tree Grow Fast

    • 1). Match the tree with the available sunlight. For instance, if the tree is a full-sun tree, plant it where it receives at least six hours of sunlight a day for fastest growth. Planting a tree in a location where it will not receive sufficient light prohibits growth and bloom production.

    • 2). Plant your tree in the proper type of soil. Some trees, like the fern pine, prefer soil that is sandy with clay, while others prefer rich soil mixed with limestone. Planting a tree is the soil that is compatible with helps the nutrients absorb faster, increasing growth.

    • 3). Avoid trimming the shoots or branches from the trunk when the tree is young. The shoots allow the tree to grow faster and shade the trunk, preventing sunscald.

    • 4). Create a mound of dirt around the bottom of the tree. Commonly called "water ring," the mound directs water to the roots around the tree and encourages outward growth. The water ring ranges from 1 inch in height for smaller trees up to 1 foot for larger trees or trees planted on a slope. Pile mulch around the tree. This helps prevent deterioration of the ring and conserves moisture, helping the tree reach maturity quicker.

    • 5). Water the tree to help it grow faster. Trees require water to make food. Watering early in the day or late in the evening, when the sun it not bearing down, helps reduce stress on the tree that may slow growth. Make sure the roots are saturated by watering them directly.

    • 6). Fertilize your tree based on the type of tree and the soil needs. Consider having a soil sample taken to determine the type of nutrients your soil is lacking. The North Dakota State University agricultural websites states that deciduous trees generally require fertilizing once every two to three years and evergreens less often.
