- 1). Mark the location of the vent from inside the laundry room. Use a drill and long drill bit to drill a pilot hole through the wall to the outside.
- 2). Bend a clothes hanger, and insert it into the wall. Rotate it around to make sure that no electrical wires will be in the way. Pilot holes can be filled and new ones made so that you do not run into electrical lines when cutting the hole for the vent.
- 3). Use a bi-metal hole saw to bore the vent hole into the inside wall until you get through the drywall. Inspect again for electrical wires or other obstructions.
- 4). Go outside and position the hole saw into your pilot hole. Bore a hole through the exterior wall to the inside.
- 5). Insert the outside vent into the hole. Mark the location of the attaching screw holes with a pencil. Remove the outside vent, and set it aside.
- 6). Drill a pilot hole for the attaching screws using the drill and appropriate size bit.
- 7). Insert the outside dryer vent back into the wall, and secure it to the outside wall. Use a screwdriver to tighten the attaching screws evenly on the dryer vent.
- 8). Use a caulking gun to apply a bead of silicone caulk around the perimeter of the dryer vent and outside wall seam.
- 9). Go inside and slide the vent ring around the inside tube of the dryer vent. Mark the screw holes with a pencil, and remove the ring.
- 10
Drill holes for the plastic anchors that the attaching screws will connect to in the wall. Insert the plastic anchors into the holes. - 11
Position the vent ring back into place, and secure it to the wall by using a screwdriver to tighten the screws into the plastic anchors. - 12
Secure the dryer duct to the dryer vent by slipping it over the vent tube, and tighten the clamp with a screwdriver.
