How to Install a Stereo in a 1989 Oldsmobile 88

    • 1). Raise the hood and disconnect the battery, using a wrench.

    • 2). Remove the dash panel by prying it off. Insert a flathead screwdriver in between the trim panel and the car radio. Gently pry off the trim panel. This will expose the screws to the original radio.

    • 3). Unscrew the original radio from the car and pull it out of the body. Disconnect any wires from the radio. The wires will be attached via a clip, making them easy to remove.

    • 4). Connect the wire harness to the new stereo and to the car. Connect the antenna cable to the antenna port in the new stereo. Mount the trim panel on the stereo. Insert the new stereo unit in the car's body. Line up the mounting brackets with the mounting-screw holes on the car body. Screw the new unit into place.

    • 5). Reattach the dash panel by popping it back into place. Reconnect the battery and lower the hood. Turn on the car and test the stereo.
