- 1). Research the shows. Figure out your eligibility. If you aren't in the market for a new home, for example, you won't be able to apply for Property Virgins or House Hunters.
- 2). Click on HGTV.com. There's a link under the tab for TV Shows to all of the programs that are looking for participants. Review the list and determine if there are shows for which you are interested in applying.
- 3). Read the fine print. Many shows are limited to a specific market or subset. Some shows film in the Los Angeles and New York areas, and limit their applicants to those general vicinities. Other shows have specific geographic areas in which they are interested. HGTV has financial requirements, as well. Some of the shows require a minimum investment by the applicant. Read all of the information before applying.
- 4). Create an application and video. Your video should showcase your personality. Focus on a compelling reason why you would be a good candidate for the show you chose. Try to imagine how the the editors would depict your situation, and attempt to make your video around that concept. Be personable and friendly in the video. Let your children or friends chime in if you think they may be included in the filming.
- 5). Follow the detailed instructions for submission. Submit videos in the correct format and fill out the paperwork carefully. HGTV will not consider an application that does not meet its submission requirements.
