How to Cut Back a Night Blooming Jasmine

    Pruning Night Blooming Jasmine

    • 1). Maintain your Night Blooming Jasmine by pruning it lightly throughout the growing season, using the smaller pruning shears to cut and remove any parts of the vine that look unhealthy: dead branches, broken vines, and any foliage that is discolored or showing signs of disease.

    • 2). Wait until it is spring and the threat of frost has passed if you want to reduce the height or overall spread of your Night Blooming Jasmine. Use the long-blade shears and the pruning shears to remove the unwanted part of the vine, but do not remove more than one-third of the plant's overall mass in a single pruning session, as this can cause the plant stress.

    • 3). Where the plant has lost its foliage, rejuvenate the wood by cutting the leafless canes back to the crown of the plant. To avoid causing the plant stress or inducing shock, only one-third of the leafless canes should be cut back in any one session and all such cutting should be done in the spring.
