- 1). Plant a young Norfolk Island pine tree in a container at least 12 inches in diameter, using a good quality standard potting mix.
- 2). Place the potted tree on a plant saucer in an indoor area that receives bright indirect light. If the tree gets two or more hours of direct sunlight each day, it will thrive even better.
- 3). Water the Norfolk Island pine tree when the soil surface becomes dry. Allow the water to drain out the pot into the saucer, but remove the excess water with a turkey baster after about 15 minutes to prevent the roots from rotting.
- 4). Fertilize once each month during the growing season with a balanced plant food designed for houseplants. Do not fertilize during winter.
- 5). Turn your tree one-quarter turn each week to maintain equal growth on all sides.
