- Buying a Halloween costume is convenient when you have money to spare, but you can create a range of fun costumes at home. Use household items to create an original or classic design. Your costume is sure to be original as no one else can duplicate a style you create by hand.
- Use black trash bags to create a trash bag costume. Staple balls of paper, empty food boxes and beverages around the top of the costume. Your bag will appear as if it is overflowing with garbage. A trash bag costume is suitable for all ages and can be made to slip over the head or step into. If you want to take your design a step further, you can also create a garbage crown for your head using a bag and more trash items. A small garbage can lid also will suffice. When the night is over, toss your costume in the nearest trash can.
- A ghost is a simple costume idea you can create from a tablecloth or bed sheet. Select linen you no longer use as you will need to cut holes in your ghost costume. Get creative with your representation of a ghost. Hang "baby" ghosts from your wrists so that you appear to be a cluster of ghosts. You can also use neon fabric and a flashlight to create an eerie costume. However, sticking to a classic design when other materials are not available will suffice. A white cloaked figure always looks spooky at night.
- Turn a little girl in to a pageant winner with her best special occasion dress, a homemade sash and tiara. You can use white copy paper to create a sash and a hair comb to make the tiara. Fresh or fake flowers can work for her prize. Wrap the flowers in tissue paper so that they are easy for her to hold. Accessories for the tiara might include jewels or glitter. Cut stars from construction paper and cover them with foil if you have neither jewels nor glitter available.
