- Transplant the sawtooth oak tree in the spring, as soon as the ground thaws. Plant it before the tree produces new foliage.
- Water the tree deeply the day before transplanting. If you are digging it up from the ground, instead of transplanting from a container, dig 1 to 2 feet away from the roots to make sure you get as much of the root ball as possible.
- The sawtooth oak has a strong, resilient root system. Try to take as much of the rootball as possible, but don't be afraid to cut into any large roots when transplanting.
