Cool Homemade Halloween Costumes for Kids

    Washing Machine

    • If you have a large cardboard box and some old clothes, you can turn your son or daughter into a washing machine.

Cut two holes in the box, one at the top for the child's head and one at the front for the washer's window. Glue cellophane wrap to the window hole from inside the box and add clothes so they look as if they're in the wash.

Variations include gluing a detergent bottle on top of the box and fashioning a pair of boxers into a hat for your child to wear.

    Corn on the Cob

    • Though children don't typically love vegetables, your child will certainly enjoy dressing as corn on the cob for Halloween.

Paint egg cartons yellow to create the corn kernels, which you'll need to glue to your child's old t-shirt, beginning from his stomach up to his chest. Create the corn husks by attaching long vertical layers of green felt to the sides of the child's clothing, starting at the child's thighs and up to his shoulders, leaving the middle open to expose the egg carton kernels. Underneath this costume, the child can wear a green turtleneck, some green stretch pants, green shoes and a green hat. On top of the hat, you can attach some raffia ribbons to stick straight up and make your child look like a perfect corn cob.

    Little Piggy

    • To turn your son or daughter into a little pig, you'll need a few items such as a pink, oversized sweatshirt, a pink knit hat, an empty toilet paper roll and a large pink button to cover one end of the roll.

Cut the sleeves off the pink sweatshirt to create a sleeveless vest that falls to the child's knees. With the sleeves from the sweatshirt, you can cut out triangles to make pig's ears, which attach to the hat. Create the snout by cutting the toilet paper roll in half, adding the button to one end and gluing fabric from the sweatshirt sleeves around the roll. Glue ribbons to the other edge of the roll to tie around the child's head to keep the snout in place. To create a tail, add a coiled piece of pink pipe cleaner to the pink vest.
