Bushes That Bloom All Season

    Butterfly Bush

    • The butterfly bush gets its name from the fact that its flowers attract butterflies. This bush is deciduous to semi-evergreen, depending on the climate in which it is planted. The bush has a weeping form that becomes even more pronounced when its abundant flowers cause the branches to bend even more. Butterfly bushes produce tiny clusters of flowers that can be purple, pink, white or red and bloom from the late spring to the first fall frost. This bush can thrive in different types of soil, as long as it is well-drained and can live in either full sun or partial sun.

    Hydrangea

    • Hydrangeas are common bushes in the American South because of their ball-shaped clusters of blooms. The flowers' color depends on the type of soil in which it is planted. Bushes planted in acidic soil produce dark purple or blue flowers. Those in neutral soil produce green or white blooms, while hydrangeas planted in alkaline soil produce pink flowers. The flowers begin blooming in the spring and will last until the mid-summer. Hydrangeas prefer loose, rich soil and partial shade to full sun.

    Rose of Sharon

    • The rose of Sharon produces large blooms that come in shades of blue, purple, pink and white. The flared blooms are typically about 3 inches wide and the showy flowers last through the hot summer. Rose of Sharon bushes are popular because they do not require much care. The plant grows best in full sun or partial shade and can grow in many different types of soil, although it prefers well-drained, fertile soil.

    Knock Out Roses

    • Knock Out roses are available in many different colors, such as red, pink, yellow and multicolored. The blooms will appear all growing season long and will brighten a summer garden. They are easy to grow because they are tolerant of heat, cold and drought. Knock out roses can handle partial shade, but they flower better in the full sun. Plant your knock out roses in well-drained soil.
