How to Cut the Eaten Leaves Off Hostas

    • 1). Grasp a single, damaged hosta leaf firmly with one hand, at the point where the leaf and its stem join. Avoid handling more than one leaf at a time.

    • 2). Separate the damaged leaf from the rest of the plant by gently tugging it and pushing away other leaves. Hold the leaf close to the ground, to keep it away from new growth near the center of the plant.

    • 3). Using sharp garden pruners, clip the stem of the hosta leaf at its base, where it touches the soil. Use the tip of the pruners to make a clean cut and avoid damage to other leaves on the plant.

    • 4). Place leaves in a garbage bag as soon as they have been cut, to avoid spreading any of the pests that may have caused the damage. Discard the garbage bag in a trash can away from other areas of the garden.
