- 1). Decide what area you want to decorate. Garden gnomes have a preference for actual gardens or yards, but many happily spend their time on porches or along pathways.
- 2). Consider the height of the gnome to the size of space you will be decorating. Traditional lawn gnomes are usually 12 to 15 inches tall and are more suited for guarding flower gardens or standing under bushes, while miniature garden gnomes like flower pots or boxes (preferably free of fairies and pixies) because of their smaller size.
- 3). If possible, choose garden gnomes that originate from the same colony (place of origin). This will not only keep disagreements among them to a minimum but also give the garden a more aesthetic appeal.
- 4). Place your garden gnomes in places where visitors will unexpectedly find them. Beneath bushes and between flowering plants will create a sense of magic when they are discovered. This also helps protect the gnome from the elements, such as rain or direct sunlight.
- 5). Do not become an over-collector of garden gnomes. Too many garden gnomes will cause discontent within the colony, and take away from your garden's fairy tale appearance. While some may argue that one can never have too many gnomes, an over abundance can give the garden a cluttered or even gaudy look. If you feel your garden décor is still a little sparse, you may consider inviting fairies or other magical creatures to balance things out.
