- 1). String any electrical wires and install any plumbing needed in the loft before beginning any other work. Add insulation to exterior walls and the ceiling. You may install insulation in interior walls as soundproofing.
- 2). Install ceiling materials. In some cases paneling will be used for the ceiling. The materials used for the ceiling should extend to the junction of the ceiling joist with the wall stud.
- 3). Install paneling on the walls of the loft. Start in a corner of the loft and work around the room. Many types of paneling are available on the market. In some cases the paneling is designed to be installed over drywall. In other cases the paneling is nailed directly to the studs. Research the type of paneling being installed and use the appropriate installation techniques.
- 4). Cut around electrical outlets and other wall fixtures using a jig or saber saw. Fit the paneling to the walls and make sure all cutout items fit before nailing or gluing the paneling in place.
- 5). Install trim such as baseboards and cove molding to complete the loft.
