- 1). Check the tire pressure on the rear tire. If the rear tire is under-inflated, there will be more friction between it and the road, slowing your scooter down tremendously. Tire pressure should be about 22 psi.
- 2). Clean your SunL's fuel system using fuel cleaning product. Gummed up fuel lines can prevent adequate amounts of fuel from reaching the engine, which can cause it to sputter and cough. Fuel cleansing products for your scooter can be purchased at a local auto parts store.
- 3). Ensure that the mechanical components of your engine are properly lubricated. Change your scooter's engine oil and brake fluid. This will prevent internal friction within the engine and the brake system. Friction in either system can prevent your scooter from operating properly.
- 1). Remove the restricting washer from your SunL's variator system. Remove the kickstart intake case and lid of your variator system with a socket wrench. Then remove the front pulley wheel, using either an air-powered impact wrench or a strap wrench to secure the wheel and a socket wrench to remove the bolt. This will give you access to the washer on the front pulley rod, which once removed, will increase the scooter's speed.
- 2). Install a windshield onto your scooter. Windshields eliminate some of the drag on your scooter by dispersing air around your body. Your body acts like a sail catching wind and slowing the scooter. Remove the plastic paneling on the handlebars and attach the windshield using the screw holes to which the paneling was attached.
- 3). Replace or clean the exhaust system of your SunL. The exhaust system can become clogged, limiting the amount of fumes expelled from the engine system. This in turn limits the amount of oxygen that enters into the fuel burn process, preventing the engine from burning the fuel as efficiently as it would with a new or cleaned exhaust system.
