      Valerian (Valeriana officinalis) is a hardy, perennial plant that presents small white and pink flowers, prized for their sweet, herbaceous fragrance. For more than 1,000 years Valerian root has been used as a medicinal herb by cultures around the world to relieve anxiety, reduce stress, promote feelings of calmness and well being and to enhance relaxation. Valued for its grounding, calming and emotional balancing influences, Valerian has been used to treat insomnia, anxiety, muscle cramps, menstrual cramps, high blood pressure and fatigue. Valerian is said to exhibit anti-spasmodic, anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and anodyne (pain relieving) properties. Valerian is available in the United States as a nutritional supplement and as therapeutic grade, organic essential oil.

      A member of the plant family Asteraceae, Calea zacatechichi, also known as thie-pelakano, bitter grass or leaf of God is a medicinal herb used for hundreds of years by the Chontal people of Mexico as a dream inducing agent. The plant is also employed to calm digestive distress, stimulate the appetite and to reduce fever. The leaves are dried and brewed as a tea or combined with tobacco and smoked.
