- 1). Plant the grass tree seed 1/8 inch deep in a nursery pot filled with a mix of equal parts moist vermiculite and moist sand.
- 2). Pour the fungicide over the soil, being careful not to disturb the seed, until it drains from the bottom of the pot.
- 3). Keep the pot in a sunny area and maintain an evenly moist soil until the seed germinates. Germination time varies according to species, and could be anywhere from six weeks to one year.
- 4). Feed the grass tree seedling for the first time when it is 4 inches tall. Dilute fish emulsion to half the strength suggested on the package. Water well after fertilizing and keep the pot in the sunny location while the grass tree grows.
- 5). Allow the grass tree seedling to grow indoors until its second spring, at which time it can be transplanted outdoors into its permanent location.
- 6). Find the sunniest spot in the garden in which to plant the grass tree seedling. Dig a hole twice the diameter of the pot in which it is growing but the same depth. When you fill the hole, use the soil from the pot, not the garden soil you removed when digging the hole.
