- Gray snow mold can appear white when growing on your lawn. After snow melts on your lawn, snow mold causes circular patches of dead grass. These patches are between 3 and 12 inches in diameter. While the grass is wet from snow, you can see the white mold growing on the blades.
- Snow mold can be prevented by mowing grass through the fall and removing thatch and fallen leaves from your yard, all of which helps remove mold spores and prevent moisture buildup. If snow mold does appear in your yard, the grass usually recovers quickly without any treatment.
- Fungicides are recommended only for severe mold infections. Avoid applying fertilizer too late in the season; if your grass stays lush rather than going dormant, it is a more attractive food source for the white mold.
