Patriotic Wreath Ideas

    Flowers

    • Use flowers to represent the colors of the American flag. Use a grapevine wreath as the base and wire bright red geraniums onto the wreath. You can choose to add a full cluster of the flowers to the bottom or cover the entire wreath with them. Tuck some silk blue cornflowers and white daisies among the geraniums. The wreath should look full and colorful. The last touch is to add a florist's bow that is made from ribbon that is red, white and blue. The loops of the bow can be a mix of these colors or the ribbon can be striped. Another approach is to cluster the flowers to one side and wire a large bow to the other side of the wreath. Add long streamers to the bow.

    Stars

    • A star is a patriotic symbol and can be used in different ways when crafting a wreath. Suspend a primitive metal star in the center of your grapevine wreath for a rustic approach. Or, use 2-inch wooden stars painted red, white and blue, gluing them throughout the wreath. Cover the wreath with red, white and blue silk flowers. Red poppies, geraniums, blue asters, cornflowers and white snapdragons or daisies all work well with the color scheme. Add a large bow made from ribbon printed with stars to coordinate well with the other star elements.

    Flags

    • A wreath made with a straw base goes well with a summer theme and is perfect for the 4th of July. Insert two miniature American flags in the bottom inside edge of the wreath. Simply press the end of the wooden "flag pole" into the straw. Have one flag face to the left and have the other face to the right. The "flag poles" will cross each other. Or, hang a small flag from the top edge of the wreath to be displayed in the center. A large blue bow can be wired to the top of the wreath and red and white flowers can be wired to the bottom. Stems of wheat can be mixed in with the flowers, if desired.

    Ribbons

    • It is possible to make a wreath with no flowers at all that is both patriotic and attractive. This method is easiest if you start with a straw wreath. Simply wrap about a quarter of the wreath with navy ribbon that is printed with white stars. Wrap the remainder of the wreath with red and white striped ribbon. A navy florist's bow can be wired to the bottom. You can also cover the straw base with loops of the striped and star ribbons until the entire base is covered. Add long streamers that hang from the bottom.
