- 1). Collect Queen Palm seeds as they begin to ripen. Ripe seeds are taken from fruit that is mature in color and ready to drop from the tree.
- 2). Clean the seeds to remove any fruit or residue that is on them. Fruit left on the seeds may prevent germination.
- 3). Soak the seeds for 24 hours in clean, chlorine-free water if they were purchased or dried. Fresh seeds do not need soaking.
- 4). Place several seeds in a 4- to 6-inch planting container filled with a water-moistened seed-starting medium that is two parts perlite and one part peat moss. Place the seeds into the soil to a depth that matches the seed diameter. A 1/4-inch diameter seed should be stuck 1/4 of an inch into the soil and covered lightly.
- 5). Place the pots in a warm greenhouse environment that has a temperature of 80 to 85 degrees F. Set the pots on a seed-starting heating mat if a greenhouse is not available.
- 6). Water the plants once a day to keep the soil moist during germination. Monitor the soil moisture more frequently if using bottom heat sources as this will dry the soil faster. The seeds will germinate in one to six months depending on the environment.
- 7). Fertilize the seedlings two to three months after germination by applying a diluted water-soluble fertilizer. Add a fungicide to the fertilizer if there is a suspected problem with fungus growth.
- 8). Transplant the seedlings to single containers once one to four leaves have formed on the plants.
