- 1). Consider the size of the job for which the post hole diggers will be used. Will there be one or two people using the equipment? How many holes need to be dug? What are the options for transporting a digger from the rental store to the project site and back? All of these questions should be taken into consideration.
- 2). Locate a directory listing of stores which rent post hole diggers. Consult local yellow page listings, local specialty business listings and Internet directories for information regarding stores which stock and rent diggers.
- 3). Contact a rental store to determine availability and rental cost of diggers. The store can also be a good source of information regarding the size or type digger to be used for a particular project. It may also be necessary to reserve the diggers ahead of time based on number available and demand.
- 4). Go to the rental store, complete the necessary paperwork and pay for the use of the diggers. Obtain any operating instructions necessary to safely operate the equipment.
- 5). Load the diggers into a vehicle which can safely and adequately transport the equipment. Properly secure the post hole diggers to avoid damage to the vehicle or to the rented equipment.
