Safety for Dryer Vents

    Clean the Lint Screen

    • Clean your dryer's lint screen or filter after every load. If you notice the dryer is performing less efficiently, it could be an indication of a blockage.

Clean the Dryer Vent and Exhaust Duct

    • Periodically check the outside vent while the dryer is running to be sure that exhaust air is blowing outside. If it is not, check the vent and exhaust duct for blockage.

    Keep the Dryer Clean

    • Clean behind the dryer where lint can build up, and keep the area around it uncluttered. Have a qualified technician clean the interior of the dryer chassis periodically.

Replace Plastic Duct With Metal Duct

    • A duct made from rigid or semi-rigid metal allows for maximum air flow. Flexible plastic or foil ducts trap lint more easily and are more susceptible to damage, which can reduce air flow.

    Use Caution With Chemicals

    • Any clothes that have been exposed to volatile chemicals such as gasoline, cooking oil or cleaning products should be washed twice, then allowed to hang dry or dried on the lowest setting with a cool-down period.
