- Browse the aisles of a crafting store with an eye for materials to glue on garden pots. There are many suitable items to glue onto garden pots for decoration.
Use 22- or 24-gauge crafting wire and assorted glass beads of varying sizes, shapes and colors to decorate a garden pot. Measure around the circumference of the pot at the top, middle and bottom. Add 2 inches for working and cut lengths of crafting wire to these lengths. Arrange the beads in the order desired and string them to the crafting wires. Fill the three wires, leaving 2 inches of wire free of beads. Wrap the wire measured for the top of the garden pot around the top of the pot. Twist the ends of the wires together tightly and glue the wire into place along the entire edge with strong waterproof glue. Wrap the middle wire around the middle of the pot in the same fashion and glue it. Wrap the bottom wire around the pot as well and glue it into place.
Use strong waterproof glue to attach glass gems to garden pots in various patterns. Choose large, bold gems and glue them around the upper rim of a garden pot. Glue complementary smaller gems around the bottom edge of the garden pot.
Glue large, colorful novelty buttons to garden pots. Choose flat buttons and use them to make flowers on the sides of the pots. Use smaller buttons for the flower centers and glue larger buttons around the flower centers as petals. - Sand the outer surface of the flower pots if they are rough. Seal the inside of the pots with three coats of polyurethane if using the pots for planting. Paint the outside of the garden pot with a base color latex paint. Up to three coats of paint may be necessary for complete coverage. Allow the base coat paint to dry completely. Use acrylic outdoor paint to add decorative designs with a small paintbrush. Allow the acrylic paint to dry overnight, then apply three coats of polyurethane to seal the paint.
