- Considered one of the most popular flowers in the United States, the sweet scented rose is a favorite gift of love on any occasion. Thanks to the efforts of commercial rose growers these blossoms are available in an array of colors including white, yellow, pink and red. It is the heirloom, or old garden roses that tend to have the sweetest and spiciest perfume.
- The elegant gardenia is a tropical plant with flashy white blossoms, dark green, glossy evergreen foliage and a heady, sweet scent. Gardenias love hot sun and water and some varieties can grow to be 8 feet tall. Also referred to as cape jasmine, these flowers are popular at weddings. Cut gardenias are on the fragile side and must be handled carefully and kept moist.
- Ginger lilies are annual flowers that bloom in summer in shades of red, orange, yellow, white or sometimes bi-colored. They have a spicy scent that not only freshens a room but seems to have a calming effect on its occupants. These plants like plenty of water and will grow in light shade to full sun.
- Possessing a lemony scent and off-white to pinkish flowers that can reach 8 inches in diameter, the magnolia flower grows on trees that can reach 80 feet in height when mature. Found throughout the Southern United States, these trees love heat and plenty of water.
- Another tropical plant, the four o'clock has trumpet shaped flowers in white, pink, yellow and red. Some blooms are two toned. These flowers get their name because they open in the afternoon, stay open all night and then close early in the morning. If it is cloudy they will stay open all day. They like lots of sun and have a strong, pleasing scent.
