- 1). Lay your paper out flat on a hard surface. Fold your square in half diagonally, creating a triangle. Now fold the triangle in half.
- 2). LIft the top layer. Hold it vertically forming a 90 degree angle with the other half of the triangle. Press it down in the middle, lining up the original creases and forming a square. Turn your project over and repeat this step with the other flap. This is known as the origami square base. Now rotate your square so that the open flaps are at the top.
- 3). Fold the left and right top layer of flaps inwards, meeting in the middle. Flip your project over and repeat on the back. You should now have four flaps. Partially open the left flap while pushing down on the crease line, as was done in Step 2. Repeat with remaining three flaps.
- 4). Fold the top right half over to the left. Turn the project over and repeat. Fold the left and right top flaps inwards, meeting in the middle. Flip project over and repeat on the back.
- 5). Orient your project so the open flaps point upwards. Fold the top layer flap in front. Fold bottom layer flap in back. Fold the top right half to the left and the back left half to the right. This will recreate the same shape you had at the beginning of this step. Fold the top layer flap in front and the bottom layer flap in the back.
- 6). Open up your project, pressing out the sides of the bowl. Arrange the four flaps of the star to be pointing out evenly.
