- 1). Plant your trees in an area that is not too windy, and has well draining soil. Make sure the location is in full sun as well. It is best to grow trees in the best conditions possible to keep them healthy.
- 2). Plant flowers nearby that attract bees. These are needed to pollinate some types of apple trees.
- 3). Trim out bag worms with tree trimmers instead of spraying insecticides. Snip the bags from the branches and put in a pile to burn.
- 4). Trim out dead or sick branches with a tree trimmer. Cut the branch about an inch from the main trunk of the tree so that you do not nick the tree.
- 5). Trim branches to let light in the middle of the tree. Take out branches that are growing down or are crossing each other. Branches that rub can damage the bark and encourage disease and insect attacks.
