- 1). Determine the actual problem whether that is a smell, a sound or perhaps an excess of smog. You don't have to be a scientist, but it is important that you have as many details as possible when you go to actually report your problem. The more you are able to actually tell the professionals the easier it will be for them to theorize and prepare for how to handle the problem.
- 2). Call one of the many local environmental agencies including Environment Arizona (602-252-9225), Southwest Hazard Control Inc. (800-279-5266) or the Sonora Environmental Research Institute (520-321-9488). Tell them everything you can about the problem including where you think it originates and how long it's been an issue.
- 3). Call the regional office of the United States Environmental Protection Agency. Arizona is a part of Region 9, the Pacific Southwest office. The toll-free number is 866-EPA-WEST. Tell the operator the problem and they will reconnect you to the appropriate office to log your problem. If it is an urgent problem that requires immediate attention you can call the emergency hotline at 800-300-2193.
- 4). Write an email or letter if you don't feel like there is any need to rush the matter. All of the above mentioned organizations can be contacted through their respective websites. You will also be able to find an address if you wish to write a letter. If you choose either of these routes it is again important to include all the information you have at your disposal. Report the severity of the problem and a specific location if possible.
