- 1). Dig around the base of the plant and remove the bulb. Be careful not to damage it with your trowel.
- 2). Remove foliage from the bulb, but do not damage the bulb itself. To be on the safe side, you may leave about an inch of growth extending out from the bulb.
- 3). Place the bulbs in a plastic bag. Pack very moist peat moss around the bulbs. Seal the bag loosely, so that some air may circulate.
- 4). Store the bulbs in a freezer set to a temperature of about 32 to 35 degrees Fahrenheit, as recommended by the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
