- 1). Prepare a 20- to 30-gallon pot for your peach tree. This pot will give the tree adequate space for growth, while making it possible to move the tree when temperatures drop. Make sure that your pot has a drainage hole and is heavy enough to balance the peach tree's foliage.
- 2). Fill the pot three-quarters full of a mixture of half quick-draining soil and half organic compost to give the peach tree a quick-draining, nutritious foundation for growing. Dig a hole that is as deep and twice as wide as the peach tree's root ball, and plant the tree. Do not fill the pot with soil, as the empty space leaves you room for watering.
- 3). Put the peach tree outdoors in spring, which may arrive as late as the end of July in northern New Hampshire. It's important to protect the tree from frost when it's young, so don't put the tree out until all frost has passed. Keep the tree in a spot where it gets full sun for eight hours a day, and fill the pot to the brim with water once a week for watering.
