- "Dooking for Apples," known in America as "Bobbing for Apples," is a one of the most popular Halloween games in Scotland, played at many children's parties. It involves filling a large basin with water and placing a number of apples inside. Children must then take turns trying to retrieve an apple using nothing but their teeth. An easier version of this game for younger children is "Forkin for Apples." The concept is the same except instead of using their teeth children stand on a stool with the handle of a fork in their mouth and must use the prongs of the fork to retrieve an apple. (Note: As of 2008, a number of schools in Scotland have banned playing Dooking for Apples in class claiming it is unhygienic. Forkin for Apples is still permitted).
- "Treacle Scones" is another popular Halloween game played in Scotland. A number of treacle-covered scones are hung by a string, and children must try to eat one with their hands tied behind their backs and their eyes blindfolded. It's a messy game, but adored by many children.
- "Burning Nuts" is a common Halloween game for young women or engaged couples in Scotland. If an engaged couple is playing, they each place a nut on the grate of a fire. If the nuts make a lot of noise --- such as spatting and hissing --- then it is believed their marriage will be a stormy one. If the nuts burn quietly, then the marriage will be a happy one. If a young lady is playing, she puts two nuts on the fire, one to represent her and one to represent her boyfriend. If the nuts are quiet, they will have a happy relationship. If the nuts are noisy, this indicates a bad omen for the couple's future.
- Another fortune telling game for adults is "Pull a Stock." Young men and women are blindfolded and walk toward a field of kale stocks (stocks from the kale plant -- a form of cabbage). They must stop at the first one they come to and pull it from the ground. The shape of the stock indicates the shape of their future husband or wife; for example, thick, thin, tall, short, straight or crooked. Furthermore, if soil is stuck to the stock, this indicates a wealthy future.
