How to Grow From Seed to Prevent Elongation

    • 1). Fill a seed tray with growing medium from your local garden center.

    • 2). Moisten the growing medium so it is wet but not dripping.

    • 3). Plant the seed at the depth recommended for the plant variety and cover the seed with soil.

    • 4). Water daily to keep the soil moist, until the seedling extends from the soil. Moisten before the soil gets dry from there on.

    • 5). Move the plant to a location that is 65 to 70 degrees Fahrenheit during the day and between 55 and 60 at night. This prevents the plant from elongating.

    • 6). Remove the seedling from the tray once two true leaves appear and plant it at the same depth into a new pot.
