- 1). Set a 5-gallon bucket upside down on two saw horses or any work surface which is low enough to make drilling easy. Use a bucket that has a handle for hanging.
- 2). Drill a 2-inch hole in the bottom of the bucket using an electric drill and 2-inch hole bit meant for drilling through plastic. Most buckets have an indentation on the bottom which can be used for a guide when drilling.
- 3). Set the bucket upright with the hole in between the saw horses. Remove the plant you are growing from its original container. While holding the plant by its roots, carefully insert the stem of the plant through the inside of the bucket down through the hole. It will come out the bottom.
- 4). Place a 2-inch layer of peat moss on the inside of the bucket. Place the peat moss underneath the roots of the plant to hold it securely in the bucket until it starts growing and becomes well established. Fill the bucket with potting soil, add a balanced fertilizer to the soil and water well to help the plant grow strong and healthy.
