How to Store Water Lilies in Winter

    • 1). Take the lily containers out of the bottom of the pond after the first frost.

    • 2). Leave the plants in their containers for the winter.

    • 3). Pull or cut off and dead leaves, stems or flowers.

    • 4). Put the containers in plastic bags. This will help keep the moisture trapped inside and protect the plants through the winter.

    • 5). Keep the water lilies stored the basement or garage where the temperature stays below 50 degrees and above the freezing mark. Check on the lilies daily to ensure there is moisture still in the bags. Do not let them dry out.

    • 6). Keep the water lilies in this state until springtime, when you can replant the lilies into the water garden or pond.
