- 1). Open the box of 35 mm film. Tear off one of the flaps containing the film's information. This should include the ISO rating, film type and number of exposures.
- 2). Remove the canister from the box and open the top. Remove the film cartridge. There will be a small leader tab of film protruding from the end of the cartridge.
- 3). Check to make sure there is no unexposed film in the camera. If there is not, open the camera back.
- 4). Insert the film cartridge into the empty side of the back of the camera. Secure it. Different cameras offer different methods of securing the film cartridge. Check the camera's manufacturer for the specific mechanism's instructions.
- 5). Stretch the leader tab of film over the inside compartment of the camera. Insert the end of the tab into the slot on the take-up reel. Align the spokes on the take-up reel to the sprockets on the film strip. Wind a small amount of film onto the take-up reel. Close the camera back.
- 6). Press the shutter button. Wind the film and view the image counter. Continue this process until the film counter shows that you are on the first exposure. The camera is now ready for use.
