How to Transfer 8mm Film to Disk

    • 1). Locate the film you wish to transfer. Clean it carefully with the repair kit, removing any dust and repairing any broken sprocket holes you may find. If the film has been edited, check the splices and repair them as needed. Remove any damaged sections that may break in the telecine machine and splice those cuts together.

    • 2). Transfer the film onto a digital video format using the telecine machine. Before using the machine, go over it with a technician to make sure it is properly calibrated, and run a test reel through the machine. Once you are certain it's functioning properly, begin your transfer.

    • 3). Connect the camcorder in the proper video format to your computerized editing system. Transfer the video files to your computer using the editing program's "capture" function. Then edit the footage as necessary, and use the editing system's "export" function to burn the editing footage to a DVD.
