Tips in Organizing Paperwork

Many of us find it challenging when it comes time to organize paperwork. Take a close look around you. What thing do you see
the most? Paper... you can find paper cluttered everywhere such as in the kitchen, living room, and the bedroom. Paper comes
in various forms such as letters, mags, books, newspapers and many more.

I'm sure there have been moments in your life where you need to find something, some information stored on a piece of paper but you can't find it. You check the cluttered papers and start your search. That's frustrating because you have to spend time to look for something that would have been easy to locate if it had a designated place.

A simple task of organizing paperwork can be stressful particularly when that stack of paper in your home is now about a mile high. In fact, what's stressful is that part of knowing where and how to start doing it. But we all know that at some time in our lives somehow it is needed that we organize these stacks of paper or to say it another way, you have to organize your paperwork.

First off, before you start working on the paperwork organizing task, you have to set up a system to follow for the organizing process. Yes, organizing paperwork may seem to be a simple chore but proper handling and a systematic process will make the job a tad faster and less tedious. Here are some tips you have to keep in mind when you begin to organize your paperwork:

Before you begin on the clutter, you have to set up categories for the types of paper you are to organize for you to have a specific place to store any paper that you might be able to get. To make it appear more simple, you can set only two options for organizing. When you pick a piece of paper, you have the choice to throw it or keep it. When you dispose of things make sure to shred papers that contain confidential information. You don't want some random person to know everything about your life. Do recycle please.

Start on the small clutter towards the bigger ones or do the reverse. Begin de-cluttering at a specific corner, working your way towards the middle. It's easier to do it that way instead of starting in a certain corner and moving to a different area even if the previous one is not through yet. Set a space in the house where you can have all the important papers stored and retrieved when needed.

This tip should be the first one in the list of many. Make time for organizing your clutter. Allot some time in the day to accomplish this particular task. Don't watch your favorite soap opera for a week or record this while you are decluttering.

You always have the option to download the episodes that you missed. Or intentionally miss your golf outing on a weekend. If you do not allocate time for this, unnecessary stress will continue.

Use containers like boxes to store your papers. For easy identification, tag these boxes. Make use of only a few tags or categories as possible. Or much better, you color code them. These designated boxes don't have to be official clutter boxes merely for the office. You can use shoe boxes or computer paper boxes. And then, specify another box as the trash box. This reduces clutter in the future as all papers that are easily identifiable as trash must automatically go to this certain box.

Here's an example of how I would tag my boxes:
Work:For files that are relevant to your work
Home: House related information like mortgage paperwork, insurance papers
Medical: All information related to health
Bills: Well this way at least you won't forget to pay your bills
Misc: For things you need but don't know where to put them
Trash: Thing you do not need at all

Organizing paperwork becomes easier when you put time and exert earnest effort into it.
