- 1). Measure the walls immediately surrounding the tub with a measuring tape. Write the measurements down on a sheet of paper.
- 2). Cut the tile flange to match the measurements you wrote down in Step 1. Miter the corner pieces at a 45 degree angle so they fit together in the corner. Use a utility knife and a miter saw to cut the tile flange to size.
- 3). Place the tile flange along the rim of the tub. Drill pilot holes through the flange and the bath rim.
- 4). Remove the tile flange from the rim of the tub. Apply a bead of silicone caulk between where the tile flange and the rim of the tub connect. Replace the tile flange along the rim of the tub.
- 5). Fasten the flange in place on the rim of the tub with self-tapping screws.
- 6). Install the tub per the manufacturer's instructions.
- 7). Nail the tile flange to the studs in the wall with a hammer and galvanized nails. Hammer the nails directly through the flat side of the flange into the studs in the wall.
- 8). Install cement board and tile on the top edge of the flange.
