How to Cover Gaps in Pine Boards

    • 1). Inspect the floor for popped, missing or broken nails. Replace any nails that are missing. Tap the popped nails back into place so they are flush with the pine boards.

    • 2). Snap the crevice attachment onto your vacuum. Vacuum the gaps or joints so they are free of dirt and debris.

    • 3). Insert the sliver wedges into the gaps. Make sure the wedges fit correctly in the gap.

    • 4). Remove the slivers from the gaps. Run a bead of flooring glue on each side of the wedge.

    • 5). Return the sliver to the gap. Hammer the sliver evenly into the gap by tapping the middle of the sliver and then the ends. Drive the sliver as far into the gap as possible.

    • 6). Wait for the slivers to dry for at least four hours after all of the gaps have been filled. Leave them overnight if possible.

    • 7). Kick the slivers if they have dried overnight while wearing the steel-toed work books. The top part of the sliver will break off, leaving the gap filled with the bottom of the wedge. Use a sharp chisel and hammer to break the sliver off if it has dried for only four to six hours.

    • 8). Sweep up the broken slivers, dust and debris with a broom and dustpan.

    • 9). Sand the floors with a floor sander for a smooth finish. Suck up the floor dust with the Shop- Vac. Empty the Shop-Vac frequently for a large room.
