- 1). Open a separate business account at your bank. Not only does this help you to keep your finances separate, it will start a separate credit profile for your business. The score will be low initially due to lack of credit, but you can work to improve it.
- 2). Ask your bank about business credit cards. When the bank already has your business, it may be more likely to work with you by giving you a business credit card. You may be able to arrange automatic payment withdrawal, which can help the bank to overlook your bad credit.
- 3). Apply for a business credit card from a retail store. Retail stores often have less strict requirements when it comes to giving credit. For example, you can apply for a card at an office supply store like Office Depot. When you pay this on time, you'll be better able to get other credit cards. Be sure to use your Employer Identification Number on the application rather than your Social Security number to build your business credit.
- 4). Apply with a company that specializes in bad credit business credit cards. Some companies will give a business credit card to companies that have bad credit. These cards may have low credit limits, high interest rates and annual fees, but you can use the card as a starting point to build better credit, making you eligible for better deals down the road.
- 5). Get a secured credit card. With a secured card, you give the company a deposit and your credit limit becomes 50 to 100 percent of that deposit. This is a good option if you want to build your business credit.
