- 1). Check the circuit breaker box for tripped breakers and blown fuses. Flip the breaker back and forth until it clicks into place. Replace blown fuses with new fuses of the same rating.
- 2). Verify that the thermostat is set to "Cool" for air conditioning and "Warm" for heating.
- 3). Turn off the thermostat for approximately one to three hours if the inside unit is running but the outside unit is not. If this does not reset the unit, contact your local independent Trane dealer.
- 4). Verify that the shutoff valve at the furnace is turned on if the unit is not heating. Check the gas valve at the gas company meter.
- 5). Clean the heat pump filter at least twice a month to maintain pump efficiency. Turn the heat pump off. Use a vacuum to clean the filter and the area immediately surrounding the filter frame. Wash the filter in soap and water if it is excessively clogged. Dry the filter thoroughly before replacing it. Do not run the unit without the air filter. Check the outside unit for leaves or plants that may be obstructing the airflow across the coil.
- 6). Verity that the door to the heat pump is closed if the blower does not engage. Ensure that the condensate drain is not blocked. Water can damage the system if condensation is unable to run from the coil to the drain. The overflow switch may be malfunctioning if the drain pan is overflowing. If this is the case, turn off the unit and call your local Trane dealer.
- 7). Inspect the flue system for signs of corrosion or any sections that may have detached from the furnace. Replace sections of the flue if necessary.
