- Before you start a cycle, pull the lint screen out of its slot in the top of the dryer. Wipe up the accumulated lint into a ball with your fingers, and discard it. Every few months, vacuum up excess lint, and wash the screen in a sink of warm soapy water. Dry the screen thoroughly, then return it to its slot.
- Clothes with unstable dyes like blue jeans and bright cotton items will stain the drum over time, leaving colored marks on the inside of the drum and the plastic baffles. To remove stains, make a paste of laundry detergent and hot water, and apply it to the inside of the dryer with a cloth. Go over the area again with a wet cloth, and dry the appliance by tumbling a load of towels for 20 minutes. Do not use flammable cleaners in the dryer drum.
- Clean the outside of the dryer cabinet with a soft, damp cloth. Wring the cloth out before you clean away dirt on the control panel, so that water does not drip inside. Avoid placing metal objects on top of the dryer to prevent scratches.
- The lint trap, although effective, doesn't catch all the lint removed from your clothes, and over time, the inside of the dryer begins to fill with dust. Every two or three years - more frequently if your dryer is used regularly - remove the power supply, and unscrew the screws on the back panel to reveal the inside of the dryer. Vacuum or brush out the accumulated lint, and screw the rear panel back in place.
