Knowing Your Cancer Symptoms: Early Detection is a Big Step towards Successful Treatment

There are hundreds of different forms and types of cancer in the world today.  Each form can be incredibly dangerous and also widespread.  With millions of people being diagnosed every year, it can be a cause for worry in many people.  Fortunately there are things that you can do to monitor your own body to watch for cancer symptoms.  Of course, different type of cancer will have different cancer symptoms, but the more common cancers have common symptoms.  Knowing these cancer symptoms is the key to early detection and early detection is the key to successful cancer therapy and treatment.

When you are looking at specific cancers, the cancer symptoms will range almost across the board to encompass nearly everything from coughing and chest pain, like you will find with lung cancer, to constipation or diarrhea, like you will find with colon cancer.  With such a wide range of symptoms and so many other diseases and illness that carry those same side effects, cancer can be difficult to detect.  There are some main cancer symptoms however.  These symptoms of the most common cancers: night sweats, unexplained weight loss, chills, fever, unexplained fatigue and unexplained loss of appetite.  Of course this list isn't exhaustive, but they the most common cancer symptoms to the most common cancer types.  Many of the symptoms will include “unexplained.”  This is because if you have the flu or are simply very stressed or busy, you may display some of these symptoms, but when they begin to occur for no reason you are aware of then it becomes a problem.

If you go to the doctor for any of these problems and he/she feels there might be a cause for concern you will be put through a few tests.  Most of them are relatively simple, like a chest x-ray or blood sample.  Some are a little more complex like a CT scan or biopsy, but either way they are effective ways to detect cancer early.

Once cancer has been detected, cancer therapy can begin.  Cancer therapy comes in many different forms and is always more effective if the cancer symptoms are caught early.  Cancer therapy ranges from radiation, surgery, immunotherapy or chemotherapy.  Each of these treatments can be difficult and painful in a number of different ways, but are often the best methods available for cancer treatment.

The reason that cancer is so difficult to detect and especially treat is because the nature of what cancer actually is.  In short, cancer is your own body's cells, mutated.  This is why your immune system doesn't destroy it, because it tricks the body into believing it belong there.  Once it has mutated it multiplies uncontrollable.  Because the immune system is one of the best disease fighting tools we have, immunotherapy has become a leader cancer therapy options.  On top of its effectiveness, it is also safe and comes with the most minimal patient discomfort because it is merely his/her own body fighting the cancer.

Immunotherapy is essentially a cancer therapy in which doctors clone the patient’s own white blood cells and then re-release them into the blood stream. Many times these cells are “trained” to identify the deformities in the cancer cells and will attack.  Another way immunotherapy works is by the injection of antibodies in the body.  This is causes the patient's own immune system to be able to detect the cancer cells and build the strength of the immune system to assist it in the destruction of the cancer cells.  This form of cancer therapy is still in its early stages of testing, but has already had promising results and cases in which it eliminated the patient’s cancer.  As of now, immunotherapy remains in the forefront of cancer therapy testing and will hopefully be part of the mainstream treatments soon.
