Many years ago there were no such things as dental implants; these days almost anyone can take have them depending on their dental needs. If you have lost a tooth or several teeth, you can have false teeth fitted in this way rather than having dentures. It means that you don't have a plate with teeth on it that you have to put in and take out of your mouth. Rather, the tooth or teeth are permanent fixtures.
It takes several appointments to have such teeth fitted as the base has to be inserted into the gum and left to heal before the tooth is screwed onto it. Often, other procedures such as porcelain or ceramic crowns are done in conjunction with an implant to enhance your smile. Your dentist will examine you to find out if you can have implants, as they are not suitable for everyone.
If you already have a full dental plate but are not happy with it because it drops down unexpectedly or is loose and you cannot chew properly with it, then you might want to consider having a dental implant to secure the dentures and make sure they remain in place. This is a similar procedure to having an implant to secure a single tooth, but it is the plate that is secured rather than the teeth.
No one likes to have a tooth removed, but in some cases it is necessary. However, even if the decay has turned into an infection in the root of the tooth, it can still be saved in many cases. The procedure for this problem is called root canal treatment. Basically, the nerve of the infected tooth must be removed, the area cleaned and disinfected and a new filling used to cover up the hole.
Treatment for this problem will be done over several appointments as it takes time for the infection to heal. During that time a temporary filling is used so that food and debris cannot get into the tooth. Once the nerve has been taken out, there will be no more pain, however because the tooth is now without a nerve, it is dead and will lose some colour over time. Often, this problem can be fixed by adding a veneer.
If the filling that was used is visible, or if any of the tooth had to be built up with a crown, ordinary whitening will not work as it only works on tooth enamel. That is why teeth whitening in Melbourne is not used for people with extensive fillings. If your teeth are badly discoloured, dental veneers could be the better solution.
