- A nonstick muffin tin or cupcake pan made out of tin, steel, aluminum or cast iron is a necessary tool in making cupcakes. The pre-measured sizes ensures all your cakes will be the same size and consistency and will bake evenly. Pans come in a variety of shapes and sizes and pans of the same size will stack easily for space saving storage. Nonstick pans will make it easier for you to remove your cupcakes after baking. If you are using darker, coated metal pans, be sure to reduce the cooking temperature by 25 degrees to prevent over baking.
- Liners not only act as a container for your cake making it easy to release the cakes from their baking pan, but they can also serve as a decorative accent perfect for themed parties. Using liners will also prevent a cake crust from forming around the edge of your cupcakes.
- A batter dispenser makes creating uniform-sized cupcakes easy. Also, it prevents drizzles of batter from making their way to the pan and being burnt on during baking. Batter is poured into the dispenser and the tool positioned over the center of the cupcake liner. Pull the lever to dispense the desired amount of batter and release to stop the batter from flowing. A locking lid makes it easy to store leftover batter.
- A cupcake corer or plunger is ideal for making cupcakes that will be filled with icing, pudding or cream. The tool is positioned over the cupcake and then the plunger is pushed down. Twist and lift the tool out and a perfect hole is now formed and ready to be filled.
- Tools like food coloring, sprinkles, frosting and candy are all useful in making your cupcakes look as good as they taste. A few drops of red food coloring will tint vanilla frosting a precious pink. The more you add, the richer your color will become. A butter knife or small spatula works nicely to spread incing onto cupcakes, or fill a plastic storage bag with icing and snip off the corner for easy icing application. Add a few sprinkles or candy-covered chocolates to make them extra festive.
