- 1). Scrape all old glaze from all four edges of the glass pane on the outside of the window with a sharp wood chisel. Use a heat gun, if needed, to warm and soften the old glazing putty. Press two metal push-type metal glass points into the wood, spaced evenly along each edge of the glass. Press the point in, to firmly press the glass into the frame.
- 2). Push the thumb release on your caulking gun and pull the plunger rod back. Insert the glazing tube into the caulking gun with the tip down. Depress the thumb release and push the plunger up against the back of the tube. Press the trigger to engage the plunger. Poke a long wire or nail up the nozzle to poke a hole in the foil seal.
- 3). Set the tip of the nozzle on the glass, at a 45-degree angle, so that the leading corner is on the wood beside the glass and the trailing corner is on the glass. Squeeze the trigger and drag the tube around the glass, applying a bead of glaze along all four sides of the glass.
- 4). Dip the chisel into water and set it at an angle similar to the angle you used for the nozzle. Drag the chisel along the glaze to smooth it. Dip it in water to rinse off excess as needed, and drag the chisel along all four edges. Scrape any excess window glaze from the glass with a razor scraper.
