- The fight to get more from less has never been more relevant than during a time when the economy slumps, and for each dollar that is earned, two extra are taken due to new cost increases and lifestyle changes. When it comes to the home or office, effective use of space is the number one priority in being able to enjoy the space you have. Taking a hint from what our pocketbooks are saying, now is the time to look at getting the most from your space with a little help of proper decoration for every space we reside in.
- Look at the space you have to work with, it is telling you that your furnishing and belongings work, or don't work in the way you have them displayed. By looking at how the space you need is being used by something else, might tell you that how you see your room in size may affect the way you use the space. A room's decor can affect how much space you have to live in, and how much space you feel you have when in the room in question.
- There was a time that your parents would want to have every possession displayed for all to see. As we become more accustomed to our successes, we look for more simple visions and lines when we get home or get to work everyday. Great interior decorators use the elements of a room to get the most from the space available. How you want your room to feel has a lot to do with what furnishings you choose to decorate with.
- The colors of the wall can make a room look much bigger or much smaller according to color. For most applications, a white wall makes a room look bigger than chocolate, brown, or red wall paint. By simply introducing a color into the room, you have adjusted the perception of the space. You can do the same with furnishings and wall coverings. Window dressing and accessories have the ability to close off the space, or open it up. Mirrors have always given the perception of a larger room. Walls of mirrors can make the user perceive that a room is double to triple in size. This perception affects how the time spent in the space is enjoyed. Taken into consideration, these elements will move each user differently, and in the end will be enjoyed by some, and not enjoyed by others.
- Take the test. Repaint a wall, remove an element, add a mirror or window treatments to make an adjustment to the perception of size for each room you want to change. The decor of a room can affect how you feel about the space you have to enjoy life and work. When the space you live in affects you in a way that is negative, it should be changed. When the space you live in affects you positively, you can feel free to experience the relaxation and/or concentration you need to focus on the joy of living. Home decor can take a 2,000 sq ft. home and make it look like 5,000 sq ft., or take a 10,000 sq ft home, and make it look like a mobile home.
