- 1). Set up a small seating area on your balcony to facilitate rest and relaxation in your outdoor area. Maximize space with multipurpose furniture; set up a small folding chair and a low, fold-out tray that can easily be put away when the balcony isn’t in use, or use a space-saving table that attaches to the side of the balcony. Alternatively, instead of chairs, set up a storage bench that provides a hidden spot for accessories, as well as seating for two.
- 2). Set up a miniature grill in the corner of your balcony to enjoy summertime cooking without compromising space. Research several grill models before making your decision; some companies sell grills that attach to the side of the balcony, leaving your floor area completely free.
- 3). Use lighting to personalize and illuminate your small balcony. Install tall torches in the corners to provide light and keep bugs away. You can also weave white or colored Christmas lights throughout your balcony railing for a festive look and feel.
- 4). Add nature to your outdoor space with small planters filled with beautiful plants and flowers, as well as specialty herbs to spice up your cooking. To save space, choose planters that affix to the side of your balcony.
- 5). Set up a small umbrella in the midst of your seating area, if your balcony lacks overhead shade.
- 6). Redo your balcony railing in glass to create a more spacious feel, if renovations are in your budget. If not, decorate the sides of your balcony with tall bamboo or spare fence parts, to create your own private oasis.
- 7). Keep your balcony clean and organized. Dirt, grime and clutter will make it appear smaller than it is. Remove all dishes, cooking utensils, ashtrays and other transitory items when not in use. If you have glass surfaces on your balcony, remain vigilant about keeping them free of fingerprints and smudges. During the winter months, bring planters inside to keep your balcony looking current and vibrant.
